Born in High Point, North Carolina Anella’s humble beginnings kept him grounded, lighting a fire under him to make it in the one thing that made sense: music. “Every time I failed at something, I found comfort in music,” Anella says. “Writing music feels like home. I’m not good
at anything else, this was the only path for me.” This passion was birthed through car rides with his father and MaMaw, flooding the sound system with Michael Jackson, Eminem, and genres like Gospel and old school country. He began to learn instruments at an early age, from drums to guitar to piano. That guitar would lead him to early gigs, playing outside of local bars as a teen in the blusterous cold to small audiences, which grew as he became known around Trinity, North Carolina.
As his numbers climbed and connections grew in 2023, breakout hits such as the moody drunken voicemail ballad, “Tequila,” and the irresistibly sweet and catchy “Tennessee Love Song” showed he was an artist to watch. But, in 2024, he hit a new level, pumping out his Season Series, a collection of short EPs featuring different moods and genres, acting like different seasons of an anthology television show. “it’s a way to make every emotion I’ve had fit into my art, Anella says. “I feel like music is just emotion at the end of the day. It’s how you process and express your feelings and translate it for others to understand and relate”.
Anella’s process comes down to tapping into formative moments and experiences, reflections of the past with story telling from his and others perspectives all while marrying his sporadic and layered songs together to convey a specific narrative and induce emotion with the listener. It’s how you get the differing sounds and editions of the Season Series, with his first edition: Season 1: I Love You, detailing his yearning for a love interest, Season 2: I Lost You, showcasing how he handled the heartbreak, Season 3: I Made You, having him try to move on, ending on a cliffhanger that will be answered in future installments. “I didn’t want to stick to any genre,” Anella says. “I didn’t want to stick to any sound. I didn’t want to stick to any look. I want to make sure people understand it’s not a specific series, it’s just me and how I feel while writing.”
With co-signs from 2 Chainz to SadaBaby and Jelly Roll, Anella has caught the attention of artists in every genre. With his next Season installment coming up, he plans to continue breaking the rules of genre, focusing the project on the different shades of love, specifically, the
beauty and tragedy of the confounding emotion. With a dedicated fanbase, creative mind, and restless desire to never settle on one sound or idea, Anella’s breakout should only continue into 2025 as he transitions from up next to the new standard of the modern singer songwriter.
